Mentors
Are you interested in volunteering as a tutor or mentor?
Volunteers are needed after school and during the day to help with homework, encourage, support, and be positive role models to students as they discover their potential. Most of our volunteers tutor at our Homework Clubs. Volunteers are students, fraternities and sororities, and service groups from local colleges, as well as community members.
Tutors are asked to make a semester-long commitment to the program to provide stability and predictability for students.
Do you have a college group that would like to work with our students?
We work with campus organizations to host one-time events for our students or fundraisers for the program. It is important for students in our program to interact with college students and imagine themselves doing the same thing. Since service is such an important component of the program, it is incredibly valuable for students to see college students giving back.
To become a Volunteer, please complete the volunteer application and email it to Johara Malcom. You will be asked to go through the interview process, attend an orientation, and complete a background check.

- Service - Do you own a local business? Our teens are always looking for opportunities to volunteer and offer community service. Please send information about the opportunity to our staff and we will connect with you about details.
- Donate - We rely on donations to support programming throughout the year. From snacks, school supplies, and money for summer programming, our program has needs year-round. You can give online through Friends of the Ithaca Youth Bureau (will hyperlink), deliver snacks for activities and Homework Club, cook dinner or provide a space to meet for our quarterly Family Dinner. If you have extra unused school supplies, you can donate that, too.
- Share Your Space - Field trips are always fun, and we appreciate when businesses and organizations invite us to their spaces to do activities with our students. Share your favorite skill or join us for an enrichment activity and provide a positive role model for our students.
